Title: People & Culture Generalist
Salary: $76,000-$78,000/annually plus benefits

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The People & Culture Generalist is a people-facing HR role responsible for leading recruitment and supporting all employee-facing functions at CYC. Serving as a primary point of contact for staff and candidates, this role provides front-line support in talent acquisition, employee relations, workplace investigations, and the interactive process for employee accommodations, ensuring alignment with applicable employment laws and organizational policies.
This position oversees full-cycle recruitment and ensures a high-quality, equitable candidate and onboarding experience. The Generalist partners closely with managers to address employee concerns, conducts and supports investigations, and helps mitigate organizational risk through consistent, compliant HR practices.
In partnership with the Sr. People Operations Generalist, who manages backend HR operations, this role remains focused on delivering responsive, high-quality service, strengthening workplace culture, and enhancing the overall employee experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding, ensuring a positive, equitable, and compliant candidate experience.
- Support workplace investigations in alignment with California legal standards and best practices, ensuring timely, thorough, and well-documented processes.
- Manage and support the interactive process for employee accommodations in compliance with the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and applicable local ordinances.
- Promote employee engagement and help implement People & Culture initiatives that reflect organizational values and support an inclusive workplace.
- Support onboarding and new hire orientation to ensure a welcoming, compliant, and culturally aligned start for all employees.
- Collaborate closely with the Sr. People Operations Generalist to ensure alignment between employee-facing support and backend HR operations, including proper documentation and compliance tracking.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and confidential documentation related to employee relations, investigations, accommodations, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, and employment laws across all employee interactions, helping mitigate organizational risk.
- Stay current on California and San Francisco employment laws and proactively recommend updates to policies and practices as needed.
- Participate in special projects and other People & Culture initiatives as assigned.
- Strong working knowledge of federal, California, and San Francisco employment laws and regulations, including FEHA, CFRA, FMLA, ADA, and local ordinances (e.g., Fair Chance, Pay Transparency, PPLO).
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
- Experience supporting the interactive process for employee accommodations and leave of absence processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Proactive, adaptable, and service-oriented approach to HR work, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Proficiency in HRIS and ATS systems, as well as Google Workspace.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field or equivalent practical experience in People & Culture/HR
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, with a strong focus on employee relations, recruitment, and employee-facing HR support.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and supporting employee relations matters in a professional setting.
- Experience managing full-cycle recruitment and partnering with hiring managers on equitable hiring practices.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or community-based organization preferred
